The Los Angeles Staples Center - A Sports and Entertainment Mecca!

The Los Angeles STAPLES Center, in the ten years since its inception, has stolen my heart. As an avid Los Angeles sports fan and entertainment groupie, I remember my first time at the Staples Center for the 1999 Grammy Awards, held in 2010, where Christina Aguilera beat out Britney Spears for best New Artist and Whitney Houston flipped off Rosie O' Donnell during a commercial break. I was mesmerized by the size and scope of the place. The front of the building is enshrined in glass; a fitting design to showcase the modern architecture.

The Staples Center broke ground March 31st 1998 and opened officially October 17, 1999. Completed for a mere $375 million, the venue is owned and operated by the L.A. Arena Company and sports and entertainment profiteer Anschutz Entertainment Group. This incredible arena is home not only to the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, and the Los Angeles Kings, all of whom I have seen play at the Staples Center, but also the Lakers sister team the Sparks as well. For basketball the Staples Center is able to host 19.079 fans. If you've never been there for a Lakers game you're in for a treat. The restaurant upstairs allows you to watch the game from above while enjoying an incredible buffet complimented by great wine and even cigars. Or if you'd rather immerse yourself in the chaos of excited L.A. fans, grab yourself something yellow and purple to wear and jump right in. You can steal a glance at Jack Nicholson and any other slew of Hollywood celebrities just a few rows down on the courtside. Nothing can feel more alive and exciting than a Lakers game at the Staples Center.

The Staples Center hosts 18,118 for a hockey game. I recommend grabbing a suite with your friends and watching the icy thrill from up high. And with the recent addition of some lovely eye candy, the Los Angeles Kings Ice Girls are now icing on the cake when it comes to Los Angeles Kings games. As of October 2008, a slew of beautiful girls skate out on the ice to clear the rubble (or just look beautiful), and often too!

At any rate, the Staples Center has more than proven itself an adequate if not exquisite arena experience. I've seen enough concerts in the past decade to appreciate the sound quality and ample seating. There is a reason the Staples Center has been chosen for six NBA Finals series as well as NBA All-Star Games aplenty, the very first Latin Grammy Awards, World Wresting events as well as the notorious Shane Mosley vs. Antonio Margarito boxing match in January 2009, which set a venue attendance record of 20,820 people. No matter what your entertainment forte, the Staples Center is designed to meet the need of every preference. No matter what your reasons for going to the Staples Center, as a hyper-critic of the venues in Los Angeles, the Staples Center is truly one of my most beloved.
